Q. What is the current international age determination date
A. The current international age determination date rule states your birthday must fall on January 1 or later of a specified year to be eligible for particular age groups. The age a player reaches during the calendar year of the international competition will serve as his competition age.
(For example, if your son/daughter wants to play on the 16U National team in 2017, he/she must be 16 years old or younger during the entire calendar year. If your son/daughter would turn 17 on December 1 of 2017, he/she would not be eligible to participate with the 16U National Team because his/her competition age would be 17, regardless of his/her age during the time of the tournament.)
Q. How will this year's 16U/17U identification and selection process work?
A. Round #1: All age eligible players are welcomed to attend one or more identification tryouts within the Southwest NTIS territory. These identification tryouts will be a blend of a combine style format and college level practice. Workouts will include 60 yd run, defensive skills assessment, batting practice, home to 1B times, pop times and arm velocities. Pitchers will perform a 20-25 pitch bullpen as well as pitchers fielding practice (PFP) and other team oriented defensive drills. NO LIVE GAMES will occur during these identification tryouts. In addition, NO PLAYER will be allowed to bypass Round #1.
Round #2: The top 16U/17U players from the various identification tryouts will advance to the 2 day Southwest NTIS Regional Showcase. Players will go through a pro-style workout prior to live games on both days. This high exposure event will be attended by many national college recruiters and pro scouts. Out of this event, the top 18 players for 16U and the top 18 players for 17U will be selected to represent Team Southwest in Cary, NC.
